Client Background
Anthony Insurance has been providing financial protection since 1953. Approximately one of every five automobiles and homes in the Newfoundland and Labrador is insured through Anthony Insurance, making the firm one of the largest insurance brokers in Atlantic Canada. Personal lines, home and auto policies are provided exclusively through Insurance Corporation of Newfoundland (ICON) making Anthony Insurance one of the few, fully-integrated, personal insurance organizations in Atlantic Canada. Insurance Corporation of Newfoundland (ICON) is part of the AXA family of companies. AXA is recognized as a global leader in the insurance industry and the largest asset holder in the world.
Client Challenge
The relationship between Anthony/ICON and Triton Data is unique. Triton Data began operations as the in-house computer department of Anthony Insurance and began operating as a separate division of the Anthony Group of Companies approximately 30 years ago. Today there is no common ownership between the firms and Anthony/ICON fully outsource all IT operations. The firms are required to align with the overall national standards for information management set out by AXA Canada, but the planning and structure for this approach is governed at the regional level.
Triton Data Solution
Triton is the sole IT solutions provider for Anthony/ICON, providing functions as varied as strategic planning, custom software development, application hosting and disaster recovery. Working with Anthony and AXA to analyze requirements, Triton has sourced third party products and also built customized software for their regional brokerage sales and underwriting systems in Atlantic Canada to support several lines of business. Triton has managed these projects from concept through implementation with a focus on aligning business needs and workflows with innovative technologies to produce significant return on investment.
In addition to these operational IT systems and support requirements, Triton Data supplies an overall process of annual strategic IT planning for Anthony/ICON. This approach is designed to guide the alignment of the client’s business objectives with the ongoing evolution of their IT systems. This process is lead through an outsourced CIO/CTO function within Triton. The CIO/CTO function (filled by Mr. Bob Goss) is responsible for the overall development and planning for the firm's technology infrastructure, enterprise level software, information systems development and maintenance, and office productivity tools and methods. Working collaboratively with the Anthony/ICON team, Triton evaluates plans and budgets their annual IT operations. Over the past 3 years, this has included large initiatives such as migration from legacy systems to client-server and web-based software. Triton also liaises with the AXA national office, to ensure that the Newfoundland region is in adherence with the national standards. Separate from the strategic planning function, Triton maintains an Insurance Business Unit charged with custom-builds, integration and implementation of any specific software projects.
Outcome and Project Benefits
This long-term relationship has proven highly effective for Anthony/ICON. Historically, the insurance industry has been slow to embrace information technology as a business function. However, guided by Triton, Anthony/ICON has fully automated many aspects of its underwriting and quoting process. Manual quoting processes are not used, except as an emergency backup.
This has lead to increased effectiveness of staff and streamlined business operations. Recently, Anthony Insurance was the fastest company in Newfoundland to process and issue insurance rebate cheques as required by provincial legislation. This was directly attributed to the service and systems planned and developed by Triton. The focus on alignment of business process with IT systems has put Anthony/ICON at the top on a national level as well.
Recently AXA Canada identified the relationship between Anthony/ICON and Triton among its most cost-effective and efficient IT services relationships. |
